We have an opportunity for a legal counsel with 3-5 years PQE to join the legal team The role contributes to business success by providing dedicated legal advice to Deutsche Börse’s businesses in the Asia Pacific zone with a focus on our Australian operations which includes but not limited to managed funds, securities related settlement activities, term deposits, asset servicing, distribution of investment fund and custodian services. This role centralizes the overall accountabilities for all commercial and regulatory legal matters into a single point, whilst supporting and advising management in discharging their risk management and compliance responsibilities from a regulatory legal perspective. The role will be based in Singapore and will report accountabilities to the Vice President, Head of Regulatory Legal and, in commercial legal matters, consult with the Vice President Head of Fund Services Legal – the parent Legal function in Europe and will be under the care and strategic guidance of the Vice President, Senior Legal Counsel on regulatory legal topics. In addition, this role will also work closely with the Business Heads in Asia Pacific, with a focus in Australia
Your Responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with senior leadership and provide legal advice on all business-related matters to various internal stakeholders including corporate functions
- Draft and negotiate agreements between Deutsche Börse and its customers
- Provide advice on contractual agreements between Deutsche Börse and its customers
- Prepare and review contracts such as service agreements, memorandum of understanding and control original legal contracts
- Seek new ways of achieving improved outcomes (where feasible) and provide legal opinion and views as necessary
- Assist with regulatory queries related to Deutsche Börse’s operations in Asia Pacific with a focus on Australia
- Supporting the business regarding the implementation of requirements pursuant to new industry and contract laws and regulations
- Providing transparent and high-quality reporting to management and the various governance bodies
- Participate in the internal committees, steerco’s, working groups and standing meetings in relation to commercial undertakings
- Assist with such other legal matters as relevant to operating Deutsche Börse’s business franchise in Asia Pacific.
Our Requirements
- Degree in Law with a current practicing certificate
- 3-5 years working in an international law firm or inhouse corporate Legal experience in a multinational company, preferably in a financial services environment, additional experience in a Custodian or adjacent sector is a plus
- Minimum 3 years of APAC/Australasia multi-jurisdictional regional experience with current knowledge of Australian contract laws and regulatory environment
- Experience working in a matrixed corporate structure with proven agility and adaptivity to work with multiple senior level stakeholders
- Strong drafting skills are essential
- Commercial minded with proven ability to provide sound advice and exercise judgement across a range of complex issues
- Outstanding verbal and written communicator
